Poor Bella

This weekend we had a trip planned to Burnet to see Nathan's dad. As we were getting in the car to leave, we heard a yelp from our biggest dog Bella. Nathan went to check on her and found her next to the electric fence with a bloody mouth. She had bitten down on the electric fence. We thought she'd probable just bit her tongue, but the blood started just pouring from her mouth. We soaked it up with rags but were unable to see where it came from. After 15 min, blood was still gushing from her mouth and dripping everywhere so we decided it was time to go to the vet. On the way, she got blood all over the back seat of my car made a trail through the vet's office and and made a pool of blood in the exam room. Dr. Creech came to see her right away. He opened up her mouth and saw a huge gash in the soft pallet of her mouth, so she went straight to surgery to get sewn up. In the meantime we went to change out of our bloody clothes. Dr. Creech wanted to keep Bella over the weekend to watch her so we went ahead and left for Burnet after cleaning up the mess. After we got on the road, Dr. Creech called to let us know how it went. She had a large gash in her soft pallet that extended to the nasal cavity, a whole in her tongue, a three inch laceration under her tongue, and several smaller lacerations on her cheeks. My poor poor Bella! We pick her up on Monday morning to give her lots of love and attention. We send two of the puppies to their new homes this Sunday and now what was play money has now been spent by Bella. She's worth it though!
