A Romantic Date Turned Soggy

Last Monday night, Nathan, being the romantic that he is, took me out on a date. He took me to see the so-called "comedy," Marley and Me that I'd been pestering him to take me to see. The only place it happened to be playing was in the mall's theatre. So we went to the mall, did a little shopping and then went to our show. The first half of the movie was hilarious. Marley made our newest dog, Bella's recent Houdini-like escape antics seem thoroughly unimpressive. Marley continued to be "the worst dog ever," as he grew older but he also became a beloved member of the family. Unprepared for the heartbreaking ending, I had to use popcorn grease-covered napkins to try to dry up the torrent of tears the end of the movie brought. When the movie was over, I had to walk back through the mall (of course we were parked at the opposite entrance from the theatre) with swollen, red eyes, no make up left to speak of on my face, and bits of popcorn kernels and grease plastered to my cheeks while forbidding any talk of the movie from Nathan to prevent further waterworks in front of all the happy shoppers and mall walkers. The tears bought me jewelry and a new shirt because Nathan felt so bad for taking me to a movie that ended so sadly and he can't stand to see me cry. Needless to say, if you're looking for a good date night movie, Marley and Me is one more for the night in.
